KMD Portal Site Composer
Solution overview
Real and scalable online Web Content Management functionality in SAP NetWeaver Portal
With this product it is easy to delegate the responsibility for all information and news flows in a SAP NetWeaver Portal. The responsible persons need not possess a technical background and can work via a simple and
intuitive web-based user interface directly in the portal.
The editing user interface resembles known tools such as Microsoft Word and therefore requires a minimum of training. Layout and design can be managed via templates and style sheets so that the content suppliers of
the web page can concentrate on facilitation of information.
This is no novelty and is the normal best practice within the WCM area, but with KMD Portal Site Composer, these features can now be completely integrated in the SAP NetWeaver Portal, providing you with a ‘real’ Web
Content Management System for use in your internal or external portal.
In addition to the above advantages, the KMD Portal Site Composer also provides the opportunity for complete delegation of portal content administration
In a standard SAP portal, technical insight is required just to change the menu structure in the portal. You need access to development and test environments, and it is necessary to handle a complete transport process from development via test to production. You have to know technical naming standards and be able to find your way in the technical structure of contents which needs not have any correlation with the menu structure of the portal.
This is very tedious if the only wish is to change the structure and add contents already tested. Via the Portal Site Composer it now becomes possible to delegate the structuring of contents from the 3rd level and
deeper to persons without technical knowledge.
Portal technicians and developers can then concentrate on making technically advanced contents and integration while others take care of the setup/structuring.
This split-up enables companies to react faster in relation to new wishes and requirements from the business. In addition, it provides optimal resource utilisation.
The Portal Site Composer provides full integration with the SAP portal
Therefore, it is not an isolated functionality or standalone third-party solution, but is based 100% on the KnowledgeManagement part of SAP NetWeaver Portal.
By choosing this solution, it is therefore possible to utilise the WCM environment, for example in connection with collaboration rooms, and to use all standard KM-functionalities such as feedback, rating, search and
classification etc. At the same time, there are no extra costs for other hardware.
KMD Portal Site Composer provides you with:
- _ Distributed content administration without web page content suppliers having to possess knowledge about the NetWeaver Portal’s rather complicated PCD (Portal Content Directory). In a standard setup, the module manages the menu structure from level 3 and downwards (in the SAP portal called detailed navigation).
However, as for certain roles, this does not prevent the portal’s ”Central Administration” from choosing management of all menu levels directly via the PCD which is then made the standard. ”The Central Administration” exclusively manages entry points for where the KMD Portal Site Composer takes over control. - _ ”Bottleneck problems” are eliminated by delegating management of portal editing.
- _ The opportunity for ”ordinary people” to become web page content suppliers of information to the portal and to prepare, structure, save and publish HTMLfiles. Possibility of making user-driven “wiki”-style sites.
- _ Simple, user-friendly interface for content structuring which can be distributed to hundreds of content suppliers.
- _ An HTML editor with a well known and secure user interface in line with Microsoft Word (Ektron eWeb-EditPro+XML). Other editors can be built into the solution if required. This feature makes KMD Portal Site Composer ready for integration with the expected Web Page Composer from SAP, thereby integrating the new standard tool for SAP Portal web editing into a strong full-blown Web Content Management system.
- _ Fully customizable set of available editing-controls , for promoting or restricting content authors’ creative freedom.
- _ Comprehensive and powerful template feature, providing several benefits:
- _Complete control of layout and style for administrators; Eg: Corporate branding is easily maintained throughout your sites.
- _Different content sections can have different layouts and styles.
- _Provision of such reader-friendly layout components as reference-side-boxes, further-reading sections etc. is readily available.
- _Possibility of including meta-tagging capabilities in templates; For instance tagging documents as “front-page-news” or Inclusion of non-rendered elements such as document number, reference number or the like.
- _ Central management and control of the site’s portfolio of iviews and pages. Tool for graded delegation of usage of iviews and pages, including specially produced iviews and pages with independent program logics and/or pipe functions to SAP-back-end systems (R/3, CRM, BW etc.) or the company’s legacy systems.
Easy-to-use administrative tools for a web coordinator to ensure overall site depth, content supplier access rights and use of different content templates within a complete structure. The web coordinator can also build a media library within KM which is accessible for some or all content suppliers. - _ Distribution and delegation of the opportunity to insert iviews or pages with approved program logics on the site with ordinary menu structure. XML based input but standard flat HTML output for excellent performance within KM. Because of the XSLT transformation within the publishing routine it is also very simple to output other formats as XML, PDF, and XHTML.
It is also possible to have more than one output format so some pages can be viewed from mobile devices. An integrated news channel viewer which end-users can personalize (can also be used with standard KM). Integrated into Collaboration Rooms: Room administrators can create and edit individual collaboration room frontpages, as well as room news and information pages with the KMD Portal Site Composer.
A high performing tree/navigation-view of very large KM/WCM structures. Deep linking and short alias for favourite functionality covering PCD roles/worksets in combination with KM/WCM content build with KMD Portal Site Composer.
